West Wimmera Health Service provides high-quality community outpatient services, disability and residential aged care and hospital care to more than 22,000 people in the West Wimmera region.

The Victorian Government is offering $15,000 grants to incentivise final year students in speech pathology and occupational therapy to work in regional and rural Victoria upon their course completion!

  • Our Occupational Therapist Department is a team of passionate professionals, striving to support our diverse range of clients across our nine West Wimmera Health Service locations and throughout our neighbouring regional communities.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to efficiently and effectively plan, implement, manage and evaluate a range of Occupational Therapy services.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and as a member of the Occupational Therapy Department and Multidisciplinary health team. Must be effective in a team and be able to demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm and flexibility.
  • Possess highly developed communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate effectively with peers and other professionals and speak to community groups as required.
  • Commitment to principles of Quality Assurance, Equal Employment Opportunity and Occupational Health & Safety
  • Current Drivers Licence.

Desirable:

  • Previous placement or work experience in a hospital/healthcare setting.
  • Experience and understanding of issues specific to provision of services in rural and remote areas.
  • Awareness of the Accreditation process, in particular EQUIP.
  • Potential of leadership qualities and skills.
  • Solid understanding of the Primary Health funding guidelines

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Effectively manage an Occupational Therapy caseload across acute, aged care and community settings.
  • Actively contribute as a team member to the effective operation of the Occupational Therapy Department, including attendance at regular team meetings.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively within the broader WWHS and Community Health Team context.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with external agencies and strategic partners in relation to effective delivery of Occupational Therapy services and community development across the Wimmera.
